The problem
What we found
A dark galley kitchen separated from an unused dining room by a load-bearing wall. The owners wanted one open kitchen-diner without losing the character of the 1930s semi.
The solution
What we did
Structural engineer's calculation, building control notified, wall propped and removed, a steel beam set on concrete padstones and boxed in with fire-rated board. Both rooms and the ceiling skimmed through so no line remains where the wall stood.
